Built to work without cell signal

Crawl spaces, basements, rural properties, and dead-zone neighborhoods are where pest control work actually happens. Bug HQ's offline infrastructure keeps the field app fully functional when the network isn't — and syncs everything automatically the moment you're back in range.

📦
Offline Write Queue

Findings, chemical records, signatures, photos, and job completions write to a local queue on your device when offline. The sync indicator shows exactly how many items are waiting.

💾
Inspection & Job Caching

Every inspection and pest job you open while online is cached to the device. If you lose signal before arriving at the property, the job record still loads from cache.

📚
WDO Findings Library Cached

The complete WDO findings reference library caches to the device on first load. All standard finding types are available for selection offline without a network request.

🔄
Auto-Sync on Reconnect

The moment your device detects a connection, Bug HQ syncs all queued items automatically. Findings, photos, signatures, and completions flow to the server in the background — no button to press.

📱
PWA Install — No App Store

Bug HQ is a Progressive Web App. Install directly from Safari or Chrome with no App Store or Play Store account required. Updates ship silently — nothing to manually install.

What needs a connection: Viewing previously uploaded photos, GPS check-in writes, report PDF generation, sending emails, and initial login all require network access. Once logged in and jobs are cached, the rest works offline.

How it works

1

Open Your Schedule

Start the day by opening Bug HQ from your home screen. Assigned jobs load with addresses, customer notes, service type, and any special instructions. Jobs cached while online are available even if signal drops on the drive out.

2

Complete the Job

Follow the guided checklist for WDO or pest inspections. Document findings, record chemicals, capture photos, and collect the customer's signature — all directly on your device. If signal drops mid-job, data queues locally and syncs automatically when you reconnect.

3

Submit and Move On

Mark the job complete. If online, data syncs immediately and the office sees the update in real time. If offline, the completion queues and syncs the moment signal returns — no manual resubmission required.

Who uses this feature

Field Technicians

Get your full schedule, job details, and inspection workflows on your phone. Works in crawl spaces, attics, and rural properties without cell signal — less calling the office, more jobs completed.

Multi-Tech Operations

Dispatch the full team from one office view. Each tech sees only their assigned jobs. Changes made in the field sync back automatically so the dispatch board stays current.

Rural Territory Companies

Agricultural properties, hillside homes, and remote locations all have dead zones. Bug HQ's offline queue keeps every inspection complete and every record intact regardless of connectivity.

What this looks like in your day

You start the morning at the truck. Pull up the day's schedule on Bug HQ — five WDO inspections and two pest jobs, all loaded before you left the yard. The first three properties are routine. Then you drive into a canyon for a hillside inspection. Signal drops the moment you turn off the main road. You open the job from your home screen. The inspection record is there, cached from when the office scheduled it. You work through the findings, log chemicals, take photos of the crawl space. When you tap complete, the app shows a queued confirmation — your data is saved on the device. You finish the job, drive back to the main road, and watch the sync indicator clear before you've put the truck in park. The office already knows the job is done. Nothing to re-enter, nothing lost.

Frequently asked questions

Does the field app work without internet?

Yes. Bug HQ is a Progressive Web App that caches inspection and pest job records to your device when online. When signal drops, WDO and pest inspection findings, photos, signatures, chemical records, and job completions queue locally in browser storage on your device and sync automatically when connectivity returns. Initial login, report PDF generation, and email sending require a network connection.

What happens to data if my battery dies before sync completes?

Queued data is stored in IndexedDB — browser storage that persists through app close and device restart. There is no expiration on queued records. When you reopen the app with signal available, the sync indicator triggers automatically. No manual resubmission required.

How do I install the field app on my phone?

Bug HQ is a Progressive Web App — no app store download required. On iOS Safari, tap the Share button then "Add to Home Screen." On Chrome for Android, accept the "Install" prompt that appears in the browser or inside the app itself. Once installed, the app opens in standalone mode from your home screen like any native app.

Can multiple techs work in offline mode at the same time?

Yes. Each device maintains its own independent queue. Findings and photos are tied to specific job IDs, so parallel offline work on different jobs has no conflict. Important caveat: if two technicians edit the same inspection while offline, the last device to sync overwrites the earlier one — there is no merge or conflict detection. For shared jobs, coordinate before going offline.

Does offline mode work for new customer records created in the field?

Yes, with a caveat. New customer forms submitted offline are saved locally and sync automatically the next time the field home screen loads with connectivity. The customer record and linked inspection appear in the system once sync completes — but the tech cannot navigate to the new job record until after syncing.
